Arsenal are yet to receive any formal communication from Barcelona over a possible move for Mesut Ozil.

Reports in Spain this morning claimed the Catalan giants have been quoted a price of £55million for the 28-year-old ahead of tonight’s La Liga transfer deadline.

Barcelona have been heavily linked with Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho but have so far failed to prise him from Anfield, forcing them to look at other alternatives.

Ozil has just one year remaining on his contract at Emirates Stadium but Arsenal are unlikely to consider a sale given they also rejected Manchester City’s late bid for Alexis Sanchez on the basis they had no time to sign a replacement.

With the deadline for English clubs to buy players now passed, the Gunners are therefore even less likely to sell. A club spokesman told Standard Sport on Friday morning that there has as yet been no formal dialogue between the two clubs.

Ozil is currently away on international duty - they face the Czech Republic in a World Cup qualifier this evening.
