Burnley 0 Arsenal 1 | Premier League | Turf Moor | Kick-off: 2pm | Sunday, 26 November, 2017

An injury-time penalty from Alexis Sanchez gave Arsenal a 1-0 win at Turf Moor on Sunday to send the Gunners up to fourth place.

Burnley, on the back of three straight wins, started strongly and went close in the 15th minute when Iceland winger Johann Berg Gudmundsson struck the post after a flowing counter-attack.

After Aaron Ramsey missed a good chance, Nacho Monreal fired just wide of Nick Pope's post as the Gunners ended the half strongly but there were few chances in a tight second period.

The Gunners grabbed the winner in injury time when Aaron Ramsay went down under challenge from James Tarkowski and Sanchez converted the spot kick.

There's been a lot of debate about expected goals (xG) in the media lately but if you're still doubting its purpose consider this. No side in the league has allowed as many shots on goal as Burnley (209) but the quality of those efforts is the 3rd worst in the league, with an xG of 0.081, so only around 8% of the shots they face would be scored by an average striker.

In short, be warned Arsenal, Burnley are very good at letting you take the sort of shots they want.

Burnley boss Sean Dyche has offered warm praise for Arsenal in his pre-match televised interview, but is convinced his side can claim a scalp on home soil:

There's a certain group of clubs in the Premier League, superpower clubs, that are very hard to play against, home or away. We believe in what we're doing and what we're looking to do at the moment. There's a lot of players who are playing very well at the moment and we've been effective at both ends.

"It's a tougher opponent today because of the history and them coming off a really, really big result last weekend against Tottenham.

"[Reaching the top four] is something that not many people would have been looking at before the season, including myself. I'm reality bound.

They have arrived - albeit a fair while later than planned. Arsenal were only 15 miles away in a hotel in Preston but hit traffic on the way to Turf Moor. Everything is going to be somewhat rushed today then, with Wenger having to hurry straight to his pre-match media duties.

It would be fair to say the last time Arsenal were running this late things didn't really go to plan...

A quick reminder now that while Burnley and Arsenal may have had very different aims heading into the 2017-18 season, both teams sit on 22 points after 12 games.

A win for either side would send them fourth - leaders Man City may be a long way ahead, but the race for Champions League qualification is well and truly open at the moment with plenty of big teams dropping points this term.

Ozil out

So, the big news for Arsenal is that Mesut Ozil is too ill to play today - that means Alex Iwobi comes into Arsene Wenger's attack, with Jack Wilshere left to kick his heels on the touchline once again.
