Calum Chambers has signed a new two-year contract extension at Arsenal, the club have confirmed.

The 22-year-old, who spent last season on loan with Middlesbrough, joined the Gunners from Southampton in 2014.

Despite managing to oust Nathaniel Clyne at right-back on the south coast, Chambers has not managed to nail down a starting berth at the Emirates.

While Arsene Wenger allowed the likes of Kieran Gibbs and Gabriel Paulista to leave over the summer, the Frenchman held onto the defender amid reports of rejected offers in the region of £20million from Leicester.

The three-cap England international, who has picked up a hip problem in recent weeks, is yet to be named in a Premier League squad so far this season with his only action being 45 minutes against Doncaster Rovers in the League Cup.

Chambers last represented the north Londoners in the top flight in their 4-3 defeat to Liverpool on the opening day of last season, in which he scored.
