Chelsea rush through signing of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from Arsenal over fear Liverpool will hijack deal

Chelsea are attempting to rush through the signing of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain as quickly as possible over fears Liverpool will hijack the move.

The 24-year-old is currently with the England squad at St George's Park preparing for the World Cup qualifiers against Malta and Slovakia.

While Arsenal have accepted a bid of £35m, Chelsea are wary that Liverpool could match it if they decide to give up on their pursuit of Thomas Lemar.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has just one year left on his deal at Arsenal and rejected their last contract offer of around £150,000-a-week because he is so keen to quit Emirates Stadium.

Conte values his versatility, although he is being earmarked to compete with Victor Moses at right wing back.

However, the England international is keen to play more in midfield, which is a role Liverpool could be prepared to offer.

Chelsea are keen to agree personal terms with him as soon as possible and are ready to at least match Arsenal's £150,000-a-week terms.

It is believed the player's decision to leave the north London club is not motivated for financial reasons, but due to a desire to improve under another coach.
