Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas is starting to fear that Manchester City's name is written on the Premier League trophy.

Manchester City's Raheem Sterling scored a late winner for the second game in a row to extend their winning run to 12 League games and maintain an 11 point lead over the Blues.

The Chelsea players were in the dressing room at the time having just beaten Swansea 1-0 and were thinking they were about to cut the gap by two, only for Sterling to find the net in the 96th minute against Southampton.

Fabregas insists the Chelsea players won't give up but admitted Manchester City had struck a telling blow.

He told Standard Sport: "Obviously when you're in the kind of form Manchester City are in, that whatever you do, you score one, two, three, four late winners, sometimes this shows you it could be your year. That you are so lucky in the final minutes.

"It happened to us when I first came to the club a few years ago (when they won the League in 2015) and we were winning games at the end. That shows that it's your year and everything is happening for you.

"But at the same time this is not happening in March, it is late November so it's still early.

"Let's see what happens. They are doing well but we have to keep an eye on the top and get closer and closer.

"We wish that they will drop points and you keep them in mind. Obviously they are at the top and we want to be at the top. We have to keep doing what we are doing, winning and winning."

Manchester City are now just one victory away from equalling Chelsea's Premier League record of last season, which matched Arsenal's feat in 2003-4, of winning 13 straight matches in the top flight in the same campaign.

Fabregas was fully aware of the psychological damage Chelsea were inflicting on their rivals during the streak 12 months ago but believes Manchester City's run won't have the same effect on them.

"We have the mentality to handle it," he said. "We have to keep going and not think about what they are doing. We know they are doing well. Let's just try to put this to the side and get as close as we can."
