Antonio Conte believes Chelsea must use the January transfer window well in order to stay in touching distance with Premier League leaders Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola's side came from behind to beat Huddersfield Town 2-1 on Sunday, which took City eight points clear of second-placed Manchester United and 11 clear of champions Chelsea.

City's blistering form this season has been down, in part, to their summer transfer business in which the club spent more than £200 million to bring in the likes of Kyle Walker and Ederson.

And Conte thinks that Chelsea must spend well in the upcoming window to strengthen his squad and ensure the reigning Premier League holders have a chance of catching up with City in the second half of the season.

"I think Manchester City in this season are a strong team," Conte said.

"Also last season, they were a fantastic team. Then, after the transfer market, they bought their first targets and then they have improved a lot.

"They can do this also in January maybe, in the future.

"For this reason we must be worried because if we want to compete with Manchester City we have to work and then make the best decisions in the transfer market."
