England kicked off their Fifa U-17 World Cup campaign in style as they thrashed Chile 4-0 in their opening Group F encounter in India.

Steve Cooper's Young Lions made light work of their south American rivals at Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata to make an early statement of intent in India.

Promising Chelsea attacker Callum Hudson-Odoi opening the scoring four minutes in after fine work by Jadon Sancho.

Sancho, who left Manchester City for Borussia Dortmund this summer in an £8million deal, then put England in firm control after the break.

The 17-year-old finished into an empty net just before the hour after the Chile goalkeeper Julio Junior Borquez failed to block Rhian Brewster's cross from the right flank.

Sancho added his second of the match with a clinical finish from the left side of the box after a superb run and assist from Chelsea's George McEachran, the younger brother of former Blues youngster Josh.

Borquez's misery was complete as the keeper was sent off and gave away a free-kick for a poor tackle on Brewster, forcing outfield player Branco Provoste in between the sticks.

And Provoste's first action was to pick the ball out of the net as Manchester United starlet Angel Gomes, on as a substitute, whipped the ball into the top corner from the resulting set-piece.

The win leaves England top of Group F before Iraq face Mexico later on Sunday.
