Danny Rose has issued an apology to Tottenham following an explosive interview in which he claimed players are underpaid and demanded big-money signings “you don’t have to Google."
Amid news of interest from Manchester United and Chelsea, the left-back also underlined his desire to "move back up north" before telling his manager, Mauricio Pochettino, that he will be "paid what I'm worth."
Tottenham are the only Premier League club yet to make a signing ahead of the new season, which starts on Friday evening, and Rose went on to question Pochettino and chairman Daniel Levy’s motivations in the transfer market.
A statement from Rose's agency, Base, read: "Having had time to consider my actions, I acknowledge now that the timing and manner of what I said was ill-judged.
"My words were not meant to offend and for that I would like to apologise to the chairman, manager and my team-mates and the fans.
"I'd also like to wish the lads good luck ahead of Sunday's game against Newcastle."
Standard Sport understands Tottenham have docked Rose two weeks' wages - worth £130,000 a week - in response to the interview, a fine the player is contesting.
Rose has been sidelined through injury since late January and is not expected to be fit for a first-team return before the end August.
