New West Ham boss David Moyes is prepared to wipe the slate clean for record signing Marko Arnautovic and give the Austrian international a chance to prove himself at the London Stadium.

Arnautovic has endured a stuttering start to life at West Ham after his £25million move from Stoke in the summer, going without a goal or assist in his first seven Premier League appearances and receiving a red card in August’s 3-2 loss at Southampton.

Moyes’ predecessor Slaven Bilic admitted last month that his new signing had not yet lived up to expectations but the new West Ham manager is not planning on dispensing with Arnautovic in the January transfer window.

Indeed Moyes and Arnautovic have not spoken since the manager’s appointment on Tuesday and the pair will sit down for talks next week after the 28-year-old returns from international duty with Austria.

West Ham remain confident that, given time, Arnautovic will prove to be worth the sizeable investment they made in him last summer.

Arnautovic made a similarly slow start when he joined Stoke in the summer of 2013, scoring just one league goal before the turn of the year, before enjoying a significant upswing in form during the second half of the season.
