Harry Winks earned praise his Tottenham team-mates after the young midfielder made his England debut against Lithuania.

Winks was called up to the senior squad for the first time this week after Fabian Delph pulled out of the squad, despite making just four Premier League starts for Spurs in his career so far.

And it got even better for Winks on Sunday, as the 21-year-old started in England's final 2018 Woirld Cup qualifier against Lithuania in Vilnius.

The Spurs youngster was bright in the centre for the Three Lions, and offered dynamism that Southgate's side have lacked in qualifying - despite comfortably reaching next's summer's finals in Russia.

Winks' range of passing was hailed on Twitter, while Kane - whose penalty secured a 1-0 win for the Three Lions - praised his Spurs team-mate on the social media platform after the match.

Kane tweeted: "An away win to finish the campaign and buzzing for @HarryWinks making his @England debut".

Alli, meanwhile, offered up a priceless blast from the past with a picture of himself and Winks when they were in the Three Lions' youth set-up.

Winks said of his debut to ITV Sport: "It's been a dream week for me, obviously.

"Getting called up at any age group is fantastic, but t get called into the senior so late, the way I found out, it was surreal and I'm really happy.

"The keeper made a great save, but I suppose it's just one of those things really. It's a good save, but if it went in it would have been brilliant."

Asked how he felt about earning a senior call-up after just four top-flight starts for Spurs, Winks added: "I was quite

surpised when I got the call myself to step in, buty obviously I'm happy just stepping in at any stage, whether it's just to help the team in training, or whatever it is, it was brilliant for me."
