Former Chelsea defender Filipe Luis has praised Diego Costa following the striker's return to Atletico Madrid.

Luis spent four years with Costa at the La Liga Club from 2010 before they both signed for Chelsea in 2014, winning the title in their first season in west London.

Luis left Stamford Bridge after just a year, but Costa stayed at the club and went on to win a second title with the Blues last season.

Eden Hazard was named the club's player of the season during both title-winning campaigns, and was crowned Premier League Player of the Year in 2015.

But Luis still rates Costa above the Belgium international.

Speaking to El Mundo, Luis said: “Costa is the best I have played with.

“I have seen [Juan Carlos] Valeron do things nobody could do. Neymar and Hazard are amazing talents, but the player who gave me most trophies was Diego Costa.”

“He always scores the opening goal. Because it is one thing to score 30 goals with hat-tricks in easy wins, and another than 20 of those 30 goals are enough to win 1-0.

“Nobody does that as well as Diego Costa.”
