France celebrated in style in Paris on Tuesday night after goals from Antoine Griezmann and Olivier Giroud booked their place at the World Cup in Russia next summer.

Les Blues needed a win against Belarus to ensure they topped Group A and secured automatic qualification ahead of Sweden and the Netherlands.

Atletico Madrid striker Griezmann finished through the ‘keeper’s legs just before the half hour mark before Giroud doubled their lead minutes later.

Belarus grabbed one back through Dinamo Minsk midfielder Anton Saroka, however, Didier Deschamps’ side had done enough to avoid the play-offs for the first time since Germany 2006.

Having topped a tough group the French squad celebrated with their fans at Stade de France with their take on Iceland’s ‘thunderclap’.

The celebration was made famous by the Icelandic side during their Euro 2016 campaign on French soil last summer, and it seems that they left their mark.

While the French have embraced the celebration since last summer, plenty of fans are less than pleased with them adopting the clap as their own.

Everton playmaker Gylfi Sigurdsson and his Iceland teammates will also be in Russia next summer hoping for a few more chances to show off their famed celebration, after topping Group I.
