Josh Onomah says the decision to leave Tottenham on loan this season is having a major impact on his England performances.

Onomah has scored twice in five Championship starts since joining Aston Villa on loan in the summer and added to his tally for the season in England's Under-21s victory over Scotland on Friday.

The midfielder put Aidy Boothroyd's men on course for victory with a stunning volley before Tammy Abraham and Dominic Solanke sealed a 3-1 win at the Riverside Stadium.

Onomah still sees his long-term future at Tottenham and signed a four-year deal at Spurs before moving to Villa Park in the summer, but feels he is benefitting after dropping to the second tier.

He said: "Going to Villa is making a huge impact on my performance when I'm with my country."

The 20-year-old was a member of the Under-20 squad which won the World Cup in the summer and has set his sights on European glory in Italy and San Marino in 2019.

The Three Lions can take control of their group with victory in Andorra on Tuesday.

He added: "We can go further (than past Under-21 teams). There are a huge lot of players who are playing well for their clubs and country. I won the Euros at Under-17s level and the World Cup at Under-20s. With that experience I feel we can push on for the Under-21s in two years.

"I have been with these boys since Under-16s. I feel like we have grown and learned from each other. We are getting better all the time and the next goal is to win Euros."
