Ex-Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has extended his war of words with his former club, claiming the only thing that could bring him out of exile is the chance to get back at the Red Devils.

Van Gaal was sacked by United in May 2016, mere days after winning the FA Cup, after two seasons at the club in which he had failed to return the club to the peak of English football.

The 66-year-old has not managed at club or international level since but has been linked with the like of Everton. However, speaking at an event in Rotterdam, he suggested his managerial career was over unless a top English club offered him a chance for revenge.

“I probably won't manage another club,” Van Gaal was quoted as saying by Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf.

“Unless it's a big English club, in that case I would like to get back at Manchester United.”

It is not the first time in recent weeks that Van Gaal has chastised his former club. Speaking to Fox Sports he claimed that United play “far more boring football” under Jose Mourinho than they ever did during his tenure.

“I would rather watch City than United,” the Dutchman added. "You need quality in a squad and it’s clear City have a better squad.”
