Jose Mourinho hinted that he is considering bringing in new signings in the January transfer window, though admitted Manchester United may have to wait until the summer.

Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard's fine second-half strikes delivered a first win in five for United as they lifted the gloom of their festive period by beating Everton 2-0 at Goodison Park on New Year's Day.

Mourinho's men had signed off 2017 by exiting the EFL Cup to Championship side Bristol City prior to three successive Premier League draws, yet a stirring second-half performance at Goodison Park on New Year's Day meant they got back on track.

United impressed despite the absence of strikers Romelu Lukaku and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and Mourinho said he will be looking at potential transfer arrivals this month - despite the relative difficulty associated with bringing in big names midway through the season.

Mourinho told Sky Sports: "I don't know about transfers.

"In this moment we are in trouble, in two to three weeks' time maybe we recover and we breathe in a different way.

"Can we improve now or do we wait until the summer? I cannot say."
