Marco Silva has refused to give any assurances regarding his long-term future at Watford as Everton consider whether to renew their pursuit of the 40-year-old this week.

Watford turned down a £10million approach from the Merseysiders for Silva last week and the club remain adamant he will not be allowed to leave Vicarage Road.

But Everton have made Silva their top target to succeed Ronald Koeman and the Watford head coach was coy about his long-term plans after yesterday’s 2-0 win over West Ham. Silva did not commit his future to Watford beyond taking training today, saying: “My last game in charge? What I can control, and what stays in my hand, is to plan the next training session.

“I know the speculation and I know some of you raise doubt about commitment.

“Me and my players put in a very good answer [against West Ham]. Speculation can happen but it is not fair to doubt commitment.”

Watford insist Silva will not be released from his two-year contract, having done an impressive job in guiding the club to eighth in the Premier League after 12 matches.

It remains to be seen if Everton will attempt to enter into further negotiations with Watford this week.

Watford supporters yesterday chanted for Silva to stay.

The manager added: “I did not hear in that moment but it is good if our fans enjoy what we are doing here.

“They know, because they understand we have changed many things in the club.”

Asked if the speculation around his future is a distraction, Silva said: “It is not a problem for me.

“I look at this situation like when sometimes teams do not perform well and people start to talk about ‘maybe they will sack the coach’.

“For me it is most important what my players felt the last week and how they will feel tomorrow.”

Goals from Will Hughes and Richarlison ended a run of three straight defeats for Watford and it was another impressive display that showed why Everton are chasing the highly regarded Silva.

Watford goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes said: “We needed that. We have been playing well but were not getting the results that we needed.”
