Mauricio Pochettino has eased fears of an injury to Harry Kane, insisting the striker was merely withdrawn from Tottenham’s 4-1 Premier League win over Liverpool as a precaution.

Kane scored Spurs’ first and fourth in a Wembley demolition of Jurgen Klopp’s side, but was withdrawn in the 88th minute for Fernando Llorente having fallen to the Wembley turf.

The 24-year-old seemed to be clutching his hamstring as he was substituted, leading to fears that his exceptional goalscoring run may be coming to a momentary end.

But Pochettino confirmed that Kane had been withdrawn due to tiredness and not any injury, pointing to the 90 minutes his striker had played against Real Madrid in the Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday and the international games he had played with England.

Pochettino said that Kane is likely to be rested for Wednesday’s EFL Cup tie against West Ham, with Llorente set to take his place, adding: "He is amazing, one of the best strikers in the world."
