Mauricio Pochettino guilty of tinkering at Tottenham, writes Danny Murphy

I am one of Mauricio Pochettino’s biggest fans but he has got to shoulder some responsibility for their dip in form.

He is a victim of his own success, because he has moved the club forward so quickly that people are now judging him on what he has done in the past two years — which is unfair because he is about three years ahead of schedule.

I think he has rotated too much. He has tweaked too often, too many times, and they look a bit all over the place in certain games. I like the ability to change to three at the back, but I prefer them with a back four.

When they had Kyle Walker, Danny Rose, Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen with two holding midfielders it worked nicely. I think tweaking of formation and personnel all the time has unsettled them.

Tottenham had become so solid and so used to where they were on the pitch, but now I am waiting to see how they are going to play and who they are going to play.

And unfortunately for Spurs, with Alderweireld’s injury, Mousa Dembele not being 100 per cent, Victor Wanyama missing and Walker not being replaced properly, all of a sudden you are starting to look at the reasons why, because they have not had the best team playing often enough.

When they have everyone fit and have their best XI then they can give everyone a game. When they are lacking a few they look vulnerable.
