Mauricio Pochettino has praised midfielder Moussa Sissioko, after the Frenchman bounced back from a poor first season at Tottenham.

After joining on deadline day last term, the former Newcastle man was underwhelming at best in a Spurs shirt, however, having featured in every game so far this season Sissoko has earned praise from Pochettino.

“A lot of players struggle in the first season at different teams,” Pochettino said of the 28-year-old.

“Remember he arrived at the end of the transfer market, the first of September, without pre-season at Newcastle.

“Then it’s so difficult to get your place, to get fit when the competition is playing and when you are playing and the team is close.

“Yes, he struggled a little bit last season like other players, but this season he has the possibility to compete for one place in the team. He’s doing very well.

“I am so happy with his attitude and his performances have been good.”

Sissoko had arguably his best game in a Tottenham shirt in Cyprus on Tuesday, as a Harry Kane hat-trick earned Pochettino’s side three points against Apoel Nicosia, and will be looking to take that form to Huddersfield this weekend.
