Romelu Lukaku is looking forward to proving that he, and not Zlatan Ibrahimovic, is Manchester United's leading man.

Despite heavy interest from his former club Chelsea, Lukaku opted to join United from Everton in a £75million summer transfer deal.

The Belgian striker has hit the ground running at Old Trafford, with three goals in three Premier League games to see United sitting top of the table.

Jose Mourinho has further strengthened his attack by re-signing Ibrahimovic, who starred with 28 goals in all competitions for the Red Devils last season.

A serious knee injury ended the Swedish striker's 2016-17 campaign and saw him released by the club, but the 35-year-old is back on the books and in Mourinho's 25-man Champions League squad.

Despite the added competition when Ibrahimovic returns to full fitness, Lukaku is looking forward to being part of the same squad at the forward.

"I said to Zlatan I hoped he would be back. We need his personality," Lukaku told reporters. "He will bring many qualities to the team, and help us in our goal of winning the title.

"I don’t fear the competition as a striker, or Zlatan.

"Things are going really well for me at United. The pre-season was good and it helped knowing a lot of the players before arriving.

"The manager has helped me a lot to settle quickly, so it has all been very positive.

"I am now with a coach that I have wanted to play with for a long time, since I was 11 years of age. And with him we are looking to do something special.

"For me it is all about progressing and learning in my career, and all the coaches I have had have helped me with that."
