Ian Wright says he would welcome the appointment of Sean Dyche at Arsenal.

Dyche has impressed in his role as Burnley manager since 2012, steering the club to two promotions from the Championship while masterminding their Premier League survival last term.

And the Clarets have kicked on this season; after an opening day victory at Chelsea, they claimed impressive draws at Liverpool and Tottenham before Saturday's win at Everton.

Dyche's side sit sixth in the Premier League table with three wins and just one defeat from their opening seven matches.

And Wright believes Arsenal should consider Dyche as Arsene Wenger's successor when the Frenchman opts to step aside.

"I believe he is somebody that needs to go, at some stage, to the next level," Wright told the BBC.

Asked if he would take Dyche at Arsenal, he added: "Yeah. The fact is would they give Sean Dyche that job?

"In respect to how his team sets up when they're defending, he's obviously got acumen - but will he get a job like that? I don't think he will."

But while Wright believes Dyche will be overlooked for top Premier League jobs, the former Arsenal man suggested the Burnley boss will eventually be "pushed" into managing the England national side.

He said: "They’ll probably start touting him for the England job.

"We’re so bereft of any manager that’s good enough, that can take on the England job. If he carries on like he is he’ll probably be pushed into that role."
