Slaven Bilic has accepted "full responsibility" after West Ham were brushed aside by Premier League newcomers Brighton.

The Seagulls travelled to the London Stadium on Friday in search of their first-ever Premier League away win, and set about achieving that feat in style.

Glenn Murray headed the visitors in front before Jose Izquierdo's curling effort beat Joe Hart to double Brighton's lead in the first period.

Murray won and dispatched a late penalty to rub salt into West Ham wounds, but Bilic refused to blame his players after the game.

“I’m not going to pinpoint the players in front of the media," the West Ham boss said.

“I am the manager, you know how it is, I don’t want to hide or run away from that responsibility.

“I take full responsibility."

Former England midfielder Jermaine Jenas told the BBC West Ham were "embarrassed" by the visitors, and Bilic acknowledged that his side were below par.

He added: “Of course I can’t be happy with our performance because we lost 3-0 at home to Brighton.

“We knew they have a good side, but with the greatest respect to them, this was one of those games that you are basically expecting - let’s say, there are no guarantees - but you are expecting to win them.

“You are not expecting that the win will come without effort no, but you are expecting the win because you are training good, because you looked good in the last six games and got some points with good performances and everything.”
