Swansea City have sacked head coach Paul Clement ahead of Saturday’s home game against Crystal Palace.

The Welsh side have lost six of their last eight Premier League games, winning only one of the others, and prop up the Premier League table with four points separating them from safety.

Former Chelsea assistant Clement is the sixth manager to have been sacked so far in what appears to be a particularly cutthroat Premier League season.

Clement’s assistants Nigel Gibbs and Karl Halabi have also left the club.

In a statement on the club website Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins said: “We felt we couldn’t leave it any longer and needed to make a change to give us the best chance of an uplift and a turnaround in fortunes with the club bottom of the Premier League.

“Paul has been at the club for 12 months and what he achieved in the second half of last season to keep us in the top flight was a tremendous feat. For that, and his effort and commitment this season, it goes without saying that the club thanks him for his work, together with Nigel (Gibbs) and Karl (Halabi).”

Clement was only appointed in January after the sacking of Bob Bradley and the Swans will now be searching for their fourth permanent manager since January 2016.

Former West Brom manager Tony Pulis is the overwhelming early favourite among bookmakers to take the vacant role at the Liberty Stadium. The club say they will provide an update to supporters “within the next 24 hours.”
