The Christmas fixtures will define Arsenal’s scrap for fourth place and getting back into the Champions League. With Liverpool and Chelsea to play at the Emirates and a tough away game at improving Palace it looks like a tough period for Arsenal. Their home form this season has been very strong and they really need a result against Liverpool on Friday night to kickstart the Christmas period and give hope to a disillusioned fan base.

To end the uncertainty around the futures of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez and also Jack Wilshere. To have all three players out of contract in the summer is going to cast an increasing cloud over Arsenal as the season plays out. If the right player is available, the most important position to address would be a top centre-half. The hamstring injury suffered by Olivier Giroud this week will probably put paid to the notion that the striker will leave in January to get more first-team football.
