Harry Kane is a star on the rise with the Tottenham striker only trailing Lionel Messi in the list of top scorers in Europe's top five leagues for 2017.

The Spurs academy graduate has had a hugely successful calendar year with 38 goals in all competitions, only eight behind Barcelona talisman Messi - out in front on 46.

Kane's form for Spurs and England has led to comparisons with the likes of Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo - earning a Ballon d'Or shortlist nomination in the process - and the 24-year-old sits ahead of the Real Madrid star's tally of 33 so far,

Sitting in third place for the year so far is Paris Saint-Germain’s Edinson Cavani with 37, overtaking Zlatan Ibrahimovic as PSG’s highest goalscorer in European competition.

The Uruguay international striker grabbed his 37th continental strike which secured PSG an 80th-minute win against championship rivals Monaco in Lyon.

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski has been thriving both on and off the pitch, taking home 36 goals in 39 matches and picking up a bachelor's degree just before helping Poland qualify for the 2018 World Cup.

Borussia Dortmund's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang sits in fifth, taking home 35 goals in the Bundesliga league so far.

The Gabon striker scooped the Torjager-Kanone for the first time last season as the league’s top scorer.
