Jamie Carragher has blasted Tottenham's Dele Alli's performance in the north London derby and said the reaction would have been worst had it been Mesut Ozil.

Arsene Wenger's side secured their first Premier League victory against Spurs in three years with their best performance of the season so far at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.

Shokodran Mustafi and Alexis Sanchez got the goals for the Gunners, closing the gap between the rivals to one point in the Premier League.

But it was Spurs forward Dele Alli who caught Jamie Carragher's eye during the game, who remained very much on the periphery until he was substituted after 75 minutes of a largely ineffective display.

The Liverpool defender slammed Alli's performance and believes the England international should have received more criticism than he did and added the reaction would have been worse had it been Mesut Ozil who had played poorly.

"If Mesut Ozil performed the way Dele Alli did in that game, we would be slaughtering Ozil," Carragher told SkySports.

"We still think of Spurs as a young team, there is no bigger fan of Spurs than me, love the way they play, the manager, the players, but we still don't treat them the way we do the other big players."

"You look at the Spurs players and think, come on, you have got to step up, now is the time."

The 21-year-old has struggled so far this season scoring just three Premier League goals and is set to be rested for the Champions League clash against Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday as he continues his recovery from a hamstring injury.
