Tottenham playmaker Christian Eriksen brushed off “world-class” labels after inspiring Denmark to an exceptional win over Poland on Friday night.

The 25-year-old put the finishing touch on his country’s 4-0 win in Copenhagen with a magnificent curling strike from outside the box in the 79th minute.

Eriksen had already set the Danes on course for victory with assists from the first three goals, converted by Thomas Delaney, Andreas Cornelius and Nicolai Jorgensen.

It had some in his home country calling Eriksen, who has been in exceptional form for Spurs in 2017, a world-class talent but the playmaker was more eager to share the praise with his team-mates.

“You must judge,” Eriksen told local media when asked whether he felt the label was fitting. “Measured on assists and goals it's probably one of my best international matches.”

He added: “I think it was a magical evening for us players. It was magic to run into the track and feel that we had the whole park with.

“We had a wildness that they could not match and we had a good enthusiasm. It all went up to a higher level.”

Denmark’s win brought them within three points of Group E leaders Poland in the race to secure World Cup qualification. The Danes are tied with Montenegro for second and face a challenging final three games.

Age Hareide’s side must travel to Armenia and Montenegro before ending their campaign at home to Romania.
