There are few guiltier pleasures in football than seeing a rivals' pain as their former hero kisses the badge on a new jersey.

And two managers who know a footballing feud better than most are Arsene Wenger and Jose Mourinho, who resume their tense relationship as Arsenal and Manchester United go head to head on Saturday.

Both managers would love nothing more than to dent the others' aspirations by tempting a star name or two away, so it comes as no surprise to have seen Mesut Ozil and Anthony Martial linked with moves north and south respectively this year.

But setting aside the cold, hard realities of huge transfer negotiations for a moment... if money were no object and United could sign one Arsenal player to complement their squad, who would it be?

Here's a rundown of the main contenders...

Mesut Ozil

Jose Mourinho has accused Henrikh Mkhitaryan of "disappearing" in recent weeks, so it would be no shock to see the Red Devils supporters covet a No.10 in world-class form for Arsenal - Mesut Ozil.

The German playmaker is on a superb run following the north London derby as the 29-year-old approaches the end of his Arsenal contract. Given Ozil's previous relationship with Mourinho at Real Madrid, a move to Old Trafford next summer could be a realistic possibility.

The Chile forward looks bound for United's 'noisy neighbours' Man City. While the Red Devils are well stocked on the left flank as Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford vie for starts, few would turn down the chance of trying to crowbar Sanchez into their starting XI.

The ball-playing centre-back has excelled in the last month, keeping clean sheets in his last seven Premier League appearances. Mourinho boasts the tightest back line in the top flight, but with none of his four main centre-backs regularly fit, Mustafi would be a tempting addition.

Alexandre Lacazette

United are not exactly lacking choice when it comes to forwards, though Romelu Lukaku is low on confidence. While Zlatan Ibrahimovic is still fearsome at 36, there are doubts as to whether Mourinho has the talent needed for the top games - especially away from home.

Lacazette's pace, power and build-up play would be an intriguing prospect alongside Martial and Rashford, potentially opening up more space in behind for the younger duo to exploit.

Laurent Koscielny

As is the case with Mustafi, United have few defensive issues this season - but they still lack a genuine leader in the mould of Nemanja Vidic or Rio Ferdinand, who used to dominate big occasions. Koscielny has professionalism and technique in equal measure
