Slaven Bilic finally saw some pressure lifted on his 49th birthday as West Ham picked up their first points of the season with a 2-0 win over Huddersfield Town.

The Hammers, playing their first game at the London Stadium this season, were in control throughout but were lacking any creative spark with playmaker Manuel Lanzini still injured.

Having dominated David Wagner’s side throughout, the hosts - spearheaded by the returning Andy Carroll - had to bide their time before finding an opening, albeit with a chunk of luck.

After somewhat of a lull in the game, Pedro Obiang hit a long-range effort which took a huge ricochet off the back of Huddersfield defender Mathias Zanka and into the back of the net 17 minutes from time.

With a lead established, Bilic’s side continued to press forward and, from a corner, a goalmouth scramble ended with substitute Andre Ayew poking home five minutes after the opening goal to calm the nerves of everyone inside the ground.
