Both West Ham and I need something from the Liverpool game, admits Slaven Bilic

Slaven Bilic says that both he and his players know exactly the situation they are in and that they need something from Saturday’s Premier League clash against Liverpool.

After a poor start to the season, playing their first four games away from home and without a win, it seemed as if West Ham had solved their problems, before a 3-0 home defeat to Brighton blew all their hard work out of the water.

Easily one of West Ham’s worst, if not the worse, performances at London Stadium since moving there, the loss to Chris Hughton’s side meant a lot needed to be done in their following away games against Spurs and Crystal Palace.

A win at Spurs relieved the pressure somewhat but did nothing for the Hammers’ Premier League standing. With minutes to go at Selhurst Park it looked as if things were turning around, however, Wilfried Zaha’s late equaliser cut deep and left Bilic in need of a result this weekend.

“I know the situation,” Bilic said. “And of course I spoke with the chairman after that game [against Crystal Palace] like I speak to him after every game and he didn’t have to tell me what position I am in or we are in.

“That means that we need something from our next game and that game is on Saturday against Liverpool.

“Of course I do [need something from the game].

“If you are talking about my position I know because it has been there for quite a time now and every win, even in the cup but especially in the league, will take me – or us – out of that position and closer to a comfortable position.

“Every bad result, or the points you are not taking puts me or the team in a worse position, but I don’t divide it, my position or the team position we are all in the same boat and I know that my job is to look after the team against Liverpool.”
