West Ham manager Slaven Bilic was dealt yet another injury blow ahead of their Premier League clash with Southampton on Saturday afternoon.

With Manuel Lanzini, Cheikhou Kouyate and Andy Carroll all sidelined through injury, defender Winston Reid has been added to the list having been carried off on a stretcher, with a suspected calf-injury, in the build-up to the game at St. Mary’s.

The New Zealand international, who signed a new six-year-deal with the club on Friday, missed five games at the end of last season as the Hammers’ injuries piled up.

Italian defender Angelo Ogbonna, himself still working back towards full fitness after a knee operation last season, was bumped up to the starting eleven on the south coast, however, given just how badly injury problems hampered Bilic’s campaign last term, the injury to the 29-year-old could be devastating.

Bilic will have been desperate for a strong performance at Southampton, where they were 3-1 winners last term, given their awful start to the season at Manchester United last week, losing 4-0.

But things started worrying for the Hammers, who fell behind after just 11 minutes.
