Phil Neville tells Romelu Lukaku to become Man United legend at Liverpool FC

The Man United legend is challenging Romelu Lukaku to score against Liverpool and prove he has the ability to be a great Red Devils striker

Phil Neville believes Romelu Lukaku needs to prove he is capable of becoming a great Manchester United player by scoring an important goal against Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.

The Belgium international has made a brilliant start to the Premier League season following a return of seven goals in seven games in the title race so far following his big-money move to Old Trafford in the summer transfer window.

Lukaku opted to move to Manchester United in a £75m deal from Everton in the summer transfer window despite defending Premier League champions Chelsea making an offer to re-sign the 24-year-old centre-forward.

The powerful forward has silenced his critics with three goals in two games in the Champions League to thrive on Europe’s biggest stage despite questions about his big-game temperament.

Lukaku will travel with Manchester United to Anfield this weekend as the Red Devils look to extend their unbeaten run to eight games, although the Belgian forward has never scored at Liverpool.

Former Manchester United defender Neville challenged Lukaku to emulate Red Devils legends Andy Cole and Ruud van Nistelrooy by scoring against Liverpool.

“Lukaku has a lot to prove in big games,” Neville told The Debate on Sky Sports on Thursday night. “He has had a fantastic start.

“It’s a test for Lukaku. Can he do it in the big games?

“This is where he becomes a real Man United player.

“This is where Cole and Van Nistelrooy became legends. Scoring in the big games that won titles.”

Liverpool finished above Manchester United in the Premier League table last term.
