Gary Neville: What Man United miss about Paul Pogba

The former Manchester United defender claims Paul Pogba's arrogance and confidence is missed at Old Trafford

Gary Neville believes Manchester United are missing Paul Pogba’s ability to unlock opposition defences.

The France international has been sidelined with a hamstring problem since being replaced in the first half of Manchester United’s 3-0 win against Anderlehct in the Champions League back in September.

Manchester United have suffered a dip in form since Pogba’s injury setback as the Red Devils continue to lose ground on Premier League leaders Manchester City.

The 20-time English champions were level on points with Pep Guardiola’s side when Pogba picked up his hamstring problem but Manchester United are now eight points adrift of the leaders.

Pogba made a brilliant start to the 2017-18 season following a return of two goals and two assists in his opening five Premier League games.

Former Manchester United defender Neville believes the Red Devils are really struggling in the absence of Pogba.

“I think Pogba is a big miss because of his arrogance and his confidence,” Neville told Sky Sports. “He takes the ball in tight areas.

“Against Chelsea when the ball got played into a United midfield player, they controlled it, and looked up for the next pass.

“Whereas when Chelsea got it, there was rhythm, they knew where the next pass was. Pogba holds the ball and beats the man.”

Manchester United played out a goalless draw with Liverpool at Anfield in a dour performance before Huddersfield Town were surprise 2-1 winners against Jose Mourinho’s men.

The Red Devils returned to winning ways with hard-fought 1-0 win against title rivals Tottenham Hotspur before defending champions Chelsea eased to a 1-0 victory over Manchester United last weekend.
