Jose Mourinho sends message to Man United fans about Scott McTominay

Jose Mourinho was delighted by Scott McTominay's performance for Manchester United on Tuesday night

Jose Mourinho revealed his delight at Scott McTominay’s performance for Manchester United in the 2-0 Champions League win over Benfica on Tuesday night.

The 20-year-old was handed the first European start of his Manchester United career agains the Portuguese side and he put in a solid performance for Mourinho’s men.

Mourinho has often been criticised as not being a manager who gives much of a chance to younger players in his teams.

However, the Portuguese coach used the example of McTominay’s appearance and his use of Dominic Solanke at Chelsea to fire back at his critics.

Speaking at his post-match news conference on Tuesday night, Mourinho said: “Scott? Even more fantastic with a manager who never gives a chance to a young guy!

“In Chelsea, [I selected] the youngest player ever to play in the Champions League, I think, in Dominic Solanke. Again, with a manager who never gives a chance to young guys.

“I’m very happy for Scott, [he has] great stability and great personality.”

Manchester United will now turn their attentions back to Premier League affairs and their crunch clash against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.

The Red Devils are currently in second place in the Premier League table and five points behind leaders Manchester City after 10 games of the new campaign.

Chelsea, meanwhile, are a further four points behind the Red Devils as they look to try and close the gap on the Manchester clubs with victory at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.
