Stan Collymore uses Arsenal example to warn Liverpool FC about future under Jurgen Klopp

The Liverpool FC legend doesn't want the Reds to suffer the same fate as top-six rivals Arsenal

Stan Collymore has warned Liverpool FC to learn from Arsenal’s mistakes over the past decade.

The Reds are in fourth place in the Premier League table following a 4-0 win over Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium last weekend.

Liverpool FC have scored a staggering 34 goals in 18 games in the Premier League this season to thrill the English top flight with their attacking performances.

However, the Merseyside outfit have struggled defensively to undermine a potential title challenge after conceding 20 times in the Premier League this season.

Jurgen Klopp led Liverpool FC to a top-four finish in his first full season in charge at Anfield following an eighth-placed finish in 2015-16.

The Reds have never won the Premier League title but were on the cusp of title glory in 2013-14 under Klopp’s predecessor Brendan Rodgers before a collapse in their final three games.

Arsenal haven’t won the top-flight crown since 2003-04 and the Gunners have regressed under Arsene Wenger in the past seven seasons, culminating in a fifth-placed finish last term.

Former Liverpool FC striker Collymore warned that the Reds could lose their best players in the coming seasons unless Klopp can improve his defence.

“Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool is a Ferrari up front and a misfiring Escort at the back,” Collymore wrote in his Daily Mirror column.

“Six times out of 10 it’ll take you where you want to go in style, but there’ll be days when you’re pushing it home.

“That’s how their Friday’s opponents Arsenal have been for years now, and if Klopp isn’t careful the Gunners’ lot over the past decade could end up being the Reds’ for the next one.

“Arsenal, like Liverpool are now, have been blessed with some fine forwards over the years.

“But just as Robin van Persie left to join a title-winning side, and Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil look like following suit, there’s a fear Philippe Coutinho will depart Merseyside soon, and Sadio Mane or Mo Salah in the not-too-distant future.

“That’s because it doesn’t take long for lads who are turning it on in attack week after week to grow tired if they’re not winning anything.”
