Conte had been in the market for a new striker until he landed Alvaro Morata in a club-record £65million deal.

But he was still full of praise for Kane when he said: "For me, Kane, now is one of the best strikers in the world.

"If I had to buy one striker I would go to Kane. He is a complete striker."

But the Golden Boot winner, who found the net 29 times in the Premier League last season, while flattered by Conte's interest confirmed his loyalty to Spurs.

When asked about Conte's praise, Kane said: "Obviously it's kind words.

"But I'm focused on my team now and what my manager thinks.

"I'm out here concentrating on what I need to do, and being fit for the new season."

Kane became the club's highest ever earner when he penned a new long-term deal until 2022 midway through last season.

But he couldn't get himself on the scoresheet in the early hours of Sunday morning when Spurs were thrashed by Man City.

Pep Guardiola's side dominated from the off before John Stones, Raheem Sterling and Brahim Diaz scored all three goals.
