He could now be a serious doubt for the highly anticipated clash against Jose Mourinho's men in Macedonia next Tuesday.

The Welsh star has been plagued by a series of injuries over the last 12 months.

Bale was limited to just 17 league starts last season and even started the Champions League final on the bench having failed to prove his match fitness.

The ex-Spurs man has been troubled with a calf injury but he has also had back, knee and ankle issues.

Bale was hoping to kick-start the new season in full fitness but he has received huge criticism for his pre-season performances so far.

He has failed to score a single goal as Real Madrid lost every match in the USA as Los Blancos fans begin to lose patience.

And his future at the Bernabeu has been called into question with speculation that Manchester United are increasing their interest.

With Real Madrid interest in breaking the world-record to sign Kylian Mbappe, Mourinho believes he can lure Bale back to the Premier League in 12 months time.

Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane admitted there were no guarantees the Welshman would be at the Bernabeu next season.
