Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho admits defeat in pursuit of Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic

Portuguese gaffer has opted to turn his attentions elsewhere after having £45m bid rejected and could turn to Gareth Bale.

JOSE MOURINHO has turned his back on a deal for Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic.

The Manchester United boss launched three bids this summer for the Croatian international which have all been knocked back.

And after having a final £45million bid rejected, Mourinho has opted to turn his attentions elsewhere.

When asked about a deal for Perisic collapsing, Mourinho told Premium Sport: "That's football.

"If I was playing against Inter tomorrow I'd want to win.

"They're strong, they put up a good defence to keep someone who's an important player for them. That's football."

The Portuguese gaffer is still in the market for at least one more signing following the arrival of Nemanja Matic.

Mourinho wants a wide player who can attack down the left and has thrown his hat in the ring for Welsh wizard Gareth Bale.

The Red Devils take on Real Madrid in the Super Cup on Wednesday night and Mourinho strongly hinted he could make a move for Bale if he became available.

Speaking ahead of the match, he said: "Well if he’s playing tomorrow, no I wouldn’t think of that, it’s because he’s in the coach’s plans and the club’s plans, because he also has that motivation to continue at Real Madrid.

“So I haven’t even thought about the possibility.

“If he is not in the club’s plans, that with the arrival of another player would mean he was on his way out, I will try to be waiting for him on the other side and fight with other coaches that would want him on their team.

“But if he plays tomorrow, that is the best confirmation that he is wanted by the team.”
