Walker-Peters was named man of the match on his Premier League debut against Newcastle on Sunday.

And the London-born right back's performance in Spurs 2-0 win over the Magpies led many to draw comparisons between him and Walker.

Twitter went wild with many hailing Walker-Peters as Walker's successor.

One tweeted: "Who needs Kyle Walker when you can have Kyle Walker-Peters."

Another wrote: "Spurs lose Kyle Walker, replace him with Kyle Walker-Peters. Checkmate."

Others took a swipe at the Sky Blues for paying so much for Walker.

One commented: "When you receive £50m for the second best Kyle Walker at your club! #NEWTOT"

Many commentators on social media joked that the debutant's replacement next season would be "Kyle Walker-Peters-Smith."

Former Liverpool forward Stan Collymore wrote: "So next year, Man City buy Kyle Walker Peters for £60m, with Kyle Walker Peters Smith coming into the Spurs team.."

After such a promising start to his Tottenham career Walker-Peters will hope to retain a place in the Spurs' first team for the rest of the season.

Mauricio Pochettino's side will host reigning league champions Chelsea next Sunday.
