Club-record signing Sanchez will wear the No6 shirt and compete with Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld for a starting spot.

The 21-year-old was wanted by Real Madrid and Barcelona after he was tipped as one of the most promising youngsters in Europe.

He starred in Ajax's run to the Europa League final - combining robust defending with intelligence on the ball to make him an idea fit at Spurs.

White Hart Lane chiefs have tied down the Colombian international until 2023 - highlighting the faith they have in him.

Ahead of his medical, Sanchez said: “I would like to thank the coach, management, players and fans of Ajax.

“It is a great move for me to come here to develop my career.
