But Gibbs, who takes home £60,000-per-week, will have to take a significant pay cut if he wants a move to Vicarage Road.

The Gunners were forced to lower their £15m price-tag with Premier League rivals not willing to splash out on the 27-year-old.

Boss Arsene Wenger has already stated how he needs to trim his squad before the end of the transfer window.

Watford manager Marco Silva will see the addition of the England international a coup as he looks to bolster his squad ahead of a tough campaign.

The Hornets have just one senior left-back in their side in Jose Holebas who is serving a suspension for being sent off in the 3-2 defeat of Bristol City midweek.

Gibbs has fallen out of favour at Arsenal but remains desperate for first-team football with the World Cup approaching next summer.

The arrival of of free transfer Sead Kolisinac from Schalke also pushed Gibbs further down the pecking order.

And he may not be the only player leaving the Emirates this summer.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain moved one step closer to moving to Chelsea after rejecting a new contract worth £180,000-a-week.

Defender Shkodran Mustafi is also braced to leave with Wenger willing to sanction the German's move to the Serie A.
