Jordan Henderson wants to be England skipper full-time and insists he is ‘ready’ for the responsibility
JORDAN HENDERSON wants the England captaincy full-time — and is ‘ready’ for the responsibility.
The Liverpool midfielder said: “Of course I want to be captain.
"If you ask a lot of the lads in the dressing room, they’ll feel as though they’re ready to lead this team. And I’m no different.
“It’s up to the manager. I’m sure the lads will be right behind the person to help them lead.
“I think it’s just finding the right captain for the manager and for this team.
“That’s his decision but I feel as though I’m ready.”
Boss Gareth Southgate is considering his options after Wayne Rooney called time on his 119-cap international career last week.
Hendo, who has twice captained his country under Southgate, added: “The captaincy is a massive honour.

"When Gareth gave me the opportunity for the first time, in November, it was a huge honour. When Harry Kane captained the squad it was a huge honour for him, Joe Hart has done it, Gary Cahill has done it.
“There’s a lot of leaders in the group that will help the captain whoever it is.”
NATHANIEL CHALOBAH says leaving Chelsea was the toughest call of his career — but also the best.
The midfielder, 22 — a £6million summer buy for Watford — has been called up to the England squad.
He said: “I had been at Chelsea my whole life so it was a very hard decision to leave.
"But they have world-class players so it was hard for me to get in the team.
“I was getting a taste of it but not enough. I wanted to go out there and experience the Premier League. Now I have the opportunity to showcase myself.”
