Wilfried Bony closing in on return to Swansea on two-year deal after Manchester City agree £12m fee

The 28-year-old eyes a return move to the Liberty Stadium to end nightmare spell with the Citizens

Swansea edge closer to completing a £12million deal with Manchester City to re-sign Wilfried Bony - just two-and-a-half years after selling him.

The Ivorian is expected to agree personal terms and complete his medical with the Welsh outfit later today.

City have been eager to offload Bony, and his £130,000-a-week wage packet, on a permanent basis for the majority of the summer.

Bony refused to take a pay-cut with the Citizens, which resulted in the club slashing £1m off their valuation.

Bony joined City in 2015 for a fee of £28million, but he struggled to cement his position in the Citizens first-team.

In a bid to end this nightmare spell, he was sent out to Stoke on loan last term.

The striker only tallied two goals in 10 outings for the Potters, who did not act on their option to make the move permanent.

The 28-year-old scored 26 goals in 54 games during his initial spell at the Liberty Stadium.

Bony has been earmarked as Fernando Llorente's replacement within Paul Clement's well-knit Welsh side.

Tottenham have had an offer of £12.1million accepted for Llorente, but the 32-year-old is not expected to complete his deal until Bony's transfer is complete.

Italian club Hellas Verona also made an official offer to sign Bony on a season-long loan, but a return to Wales looks imminent for the 28-year-old.
