Manchester United to install ring of steel around Carrington training base over terror fears
The Reds have applied for planning permission to improve levels of security following deadly terror attack at Manchester Arena
MANCHESTER UNITED will reportedly fortify their training ground with a number of new security features due to the ongoing terror threat.
The Premier League giants have order new gates, bollards and barriers to protect the Aon Training Complex.
Following the recent terrorist attack in the Manchester Arena, the club have been forced to make changes at the Carrington training ground, according to the Daily Mail.
The aim to is to prevent unwanted vehicles and people getting close where the footballers practice day in, day out.
These measures are a result of the terror attack in Manchester Arena in May, which resulted in 23 deaths and hundreds of injuries.
United’s application for planning permission reads: ‘A range of security measures are proposed as part of the application including new gates, barriers and bollards. These measures will upgrade existing security measures that are in place.
This level of security is required due to the high profile of Manchester United and to continue to ensure that visitors are controlled and the complex remains secure. The gates will provide the complex with a secure boundary.’
Before the start of the new campaign, United banned certain bags from Old Trafford to ensure safety inside the stadium.
The Reds also recently installed state-of-the-art cameras to improve security at the venue - after they decided against installing netting.
Earlier this month United also advised their fans to get to games at least an hour before kick-off.
The club have been reviewing their security procedures with Greater Manchester Police.
