It has left Lukaku's position in the side under threat with both strikers eyeing first-team football.

The Belgian striker has started the season on fire with three goals in his first three matches.

And the £75million signing thinks the return of Ibra will only benefit the squad because they "need his personality."

He told reporters after bagging a hat-trick for Belgium: "I already knew for a while that Zlatan would sign but I didn't tell anyone.

"I'm happy. We need his personality.

"I think Zlatan will bring us a lot. I think he has one mission, and that is to win the Premier League, and we're going to help him reach his goal."

Ibrahimovic was initially ruled out of action until January but physios are confident the 35-year-old could return to action before the New Year.

And it will prove a timely boost for boss Jose Mourinho ahead of a jam-packed schedule over the festive period.

Ibrahimovic scored 17 league goals in 27 starts last season as United lumbered to a sixth place finish.
