Everton ace Ross Barkley insists he DID NOT have a medical at Chelsea before rejecting a last minute move

ROSS BARKLEY claims he did NOT undergo a medical at Chelsea on deadline day - before rejecting a last-gasp move to Stamford Bridge.

The Everton ace looked set to join Antonio Conte's side after the Blues had a £35million bid accepted by the Toffees.

Reports claimed that the England international arrived at Chelsea' Cobham training ground in Surrey, completed his medical and then turned down a switch to the Premier League champions.

But Barkley insists in a series of tweets that it was not the case and he plans to regain his fitness before making a decision on his future.

He wrote: "Contrary to a number of reports in the press, I did not undertake a medical with any club at any point.

"I simply decided that due to my injury, it would be best to make a decision on my future and assess all my options in January when fully fit.

"Thanks for all of the support."

The 23-year-old is currently recovering from a serious hamstring injury that has ruled him out of action until at least November.

But Barkley's statement is contradictory to that of Everton owner Farhad Moshiri who claimed the midfielder DID have a medical.

He told Sky Sports after the deal fell through: "The clubs agreed a deal of £35 million. And I think personal terms were agreed and after the medical we had heard from Paul Martin, Ross Barkley’s agent that the player had changed his mind.

“And he wanted to reconsider his position during the January transfer window. That is the latest we have been advised. He is currently injured so technically he will be with us because he is under contract for another year.

“So I think it is a bit surprising but that is football.”

Chelsea's loss could Tottenham's gain with Mauricio Pochettino plotting a January swoop for the wantaway talent.

Should they manage to bag the England international, it would be another bitter pill for Chelsea to swallow after their London rivals beat them to the signature of Swansea striker Fernando Llorente.
