Tottenham Hotspur transfer news: Ross Barkley to join Spurs from Everton in January after snubbing Chelsea on deadline day
The England international reportedly travelled to London to complete a medical with the Blues before changing his mind
ROSS BARKLEY will move to Tottenham in January after snubbing a move to Chelsea on transfer deadline day, according to reports.
The Everton star was expected to leave Goodison in this summer, but will now move at the start of 2018.
The Daily Star claims the England international travelled down to London last Thursday to complete a medical after a £35 million bid had been accepted by the Toffes.
The 23-year-old then made an extraordinary u-turn and instead decided to return to the Merseyside club.
Barkley, who is out of contract next summer, has denied undergoing a medical with the Blues on deadline day.
The 23-year-old England international took to social media on Saturday to insist that was not the case.
“Contrary to a number of reports in the press, I did not undertake a medical with any club at any point,” Barkley wrote on Twitter.
“I simply decided that due to my injury, it would be best to make a decision on my future and assess all my options in January when fully fit.”

But Barkley's statement is contradictory to that of Everton owner Farhad Moshiri who claimed the midfielder did have a medical.
He told Sky Sports after the deal fell through: "The clubs agreed a deal of £35 million. And I think personal terms were agreed and after the medical we had heard from Paul Martin, Ross Barkley’s agent that the player had changed his mind.
“And he wanted to reconsider his position during the January transfer window. That is the latest we have been advised. He is currently injured so technically he will be with us because he is under contract for another year.
“So I think it is a bit surprising but that is football.”
