Davy Klaassen admits he hasn’t even spoken to Wayne Rooney after last season’s Europa League heartache
Dutch striker was in Ajax side that lost to Rooney's Manchester United but he is ready to create history with the Toffees
DAVY KLAASSEN still feels the pain of losing to Manchester United in last season’s Europa League final.
The Dutchman was in the Ajax team that was beaten 2-0 by the Red Devils and then had to watch Wayne Rooney, now an Everton team-mate, lift the trophy.
Roo and midfielder Klaassen should start the Toffees’ Europa League clash with Atalanta here in northern Italy tonight.
And Klaassen, a £23.4million summer signing, said: “I still feel the pain from last season’s final.
“I haven’t even spoken to Wayne about it, because I don’t like to talk about that match. But I don’t need to lose a final to be hungry, that hunger to win trophies must always be there.
“We all start at zero again tonight, and want to reach as far as possible. I have confidence in this squad, I know we can win tough games.”
Klaassen, 24, admits he has struggled to make an impact on Merseyside.
He added: “It has not been easy for me to adapt. I need to improve.

“It is different speed to the one I am used to, a different intensity.
“But that is what I wanted. I wanted something else, something bigger. I like the life and the club.”
Meanwhile Everton are weighing up a bid for Celtic youngster Anthony Ralston.
The Toffees scouts have been trailing the right-back since his run in the first team at the end of last season.
