Rooney's relationship with wife Coleen has been in turmoil ever since he was stopped driving the car of a woman he met in a bar on a night out.

And fans have seen the new sponsor as the perfect opportunity to put Rooney back in the firing line on Twitter.

One supporter said: "Wayne Rooney with 'Angry Birds' on his sleeve. You couldn't make it up."

Another wrote: "Wayne Rooney with Angry Birds sponsor on his sleeve is the most ironic thing I've ever seen."

And Dave Arthur said: "Just thinking that Wayne Rooney must be quite used to having 'Angry Birds' on his arm."

Another fan joked: "Everton's shirt sponsor is Angry Birds, Wayne Rooney knows all about them."

The 31-year-old, who is looking to fire the Toffees out of the relegation zone, was slapped with a £320,000 fine from the club for his driving antics.

It is just two weeks wages for Manchester United's record goalscorer.

Rooney had a breathalyser reading of 104 micrograms – the legal limit is 35 micrograms per 100ml of breath.

The court was told: “Wayne wishes to express his genuine remorse for this terrible error of judgement that evening.

“He’s let not only himself down but his family down. He acknowledges he has let his fans down.”
