Stoke legend Ricardo Fuller turns up late, wins a penalty, scores from the spot then leaves before the final whistle appearing for Sunday League side

The ex-Jamaica international now turns out for Cobridge Grange in the Potteries and District Sunday League second tier

RICARDO FULLER gave a typical maverick performance as he turned out for Sunday League side Cobridge Grange at the weekend.

The former Stoke striker arrived for the game against promotion-chasing Greenhoffs ten minutes late, but was immediately introduced into the action.

He then won a penalty, scored from the spot, before he left the game early as he wanted to watch his son play in a junior football game.

His efforts were all in vain however. Cobridge went on to lose the Potteries and District Sunday League clash 4-1.

Speaking to the BBC referee for the game and league vice-chairman Mick Mallin admitted he was a huge Stoke fan, but that the decision to give Fuller the chance from the spot was a "stonewall penalty".

He said: "I'm a Stoke fan anyway, so I just had to make sure it didn't sway any decisions in the game.

"It's just a bit bizarre to have one of my heroes turn up."

"Guys that you paid to watch suddenly putting something back into grass roots - it's great to see."

Mamady Sidibe, another Stoke legend, is also on the books of Cobridge Grange

"The lad marking him did quite a good job on him, but you could still see he's got it."

And Cobridge's strikeforce could strike fear into the other teams in the league in the coming weeks.

Fuller's ex-teammate at Stoke Mamady Sidibe is also on the books, but the pair are yet to rekindle their partnership.

Fuller only retired from professional football last year and is a former international having represented Jamaica 79 times, scoring nine goals.

Sidibe is also an ex-international, having turned out for Mali 14 times.
